How to Create a New Graph?

In each topic you can set up as many graphs as you want, using all your available data sources. You can set up separate graphs for each data source, or even combine multiple sources in one graph. For instance you could easily create a graph showing your media spending, versus your brand preference from your tracker. To create a new graph, simply click the "Create" button on the top right side of the screen, and select graph form the scroll down menu.

You are now in editing mode. In the left side menu you can choose witch data sources you want to include in your graph.

Add Research Data

If you want to include research data in your graph you simply choose the data source that can provide you with data from your tracker. Click on the data source, choose witch variable you want, and choose one or several options, and click "Add".

Add Behavioral or Any Other Data

If you want to include behavioral data or any other data, choose one of the data sources that can provide you with this data. Click on the data source, choose which variable you want from the scroll down menu and click "Add".

When you click "Add" you will be presented with a new window where you can choose different options. Click on the options you want to include in the data series and click "Add with selected filter" or "Add with Selected Filter and Close". If you click on "Add with Selected Filter and Close" the data series will be added to the graph and the window will disappear. If you click on "Add with Selected Filter" a green checkbox "Data Series Added" will appear in the top right corner. You can now add a new data series from the same variable by changing the combination of the options and click "Add with selected filter" again. When you have added all the data series you want from this variable you simply click "Close".

Main Chart and Legend

A graph in Penetrace contains a main chart and a legend. All the data series in the graph are listed under each other in the legend. On the left side of each data series there are a color code who represent the data series in the main chart.

Title and Placement 

Give the graph a title and a description. Select which topic you want place the graph in by clicking on the topic box and select one of the topics. You will not be able to save if you don't give the graph a title. 

Data Series Settings

You have now created a graph with research-,behavioral- or any other data, or you might have a combination of different data sources. All your added data series will appear in the box on the lower left side.

If you want to change the name, duplicate or delete the data series you have a menu on the right side on each data series. If you click on the pen symbol you will be able to change the data series label. By clicking on the + symbol you will duplicate the data series. If you click on the trash can symbol the data series will be deleted. You can also change the color on the data series by clicking on the color code on the right side. 

Edit Data Series

If you want to edit the data level, view type or axis in the graph, mark the data series you want to change. 

If you only mark one data series, you will be able to see all the default settings for the selected data series. If you mark several data series, all the default settings will be blanked out. You will then be able to edit all the marked data series at the same time. (Note: You will not be abel to mark and edit research- and behavioral data at the same time).

Filter

Filter is mostly used to segment different target groups, based on the background questions in your tracker. Every tracker have a set of demographical and geographical questions, e.g. gender, income, education, marital status, number of persons in the household etc. Since filters is based on your research data it will not work on any other data. A filter is also unique for each tracker. In other words if you have more than one tracker in Penetrace your filters will not work across trackers.

To set a filter on data series from your tracker you simply mark the data series you want to set a filter on and click on the Filter tab next to Edit Data Series.

All your available filters are now listed in groups bellow each other. Choose which filter you want for your data series, you activate the filter just by clicking on it. (If you don't have filter listed in groups or you don't have any filter at all, you will be recommended some articles under next paragraph)

In the legend under the main chart you can see the filter is activated on the data series you chosen.

Graph Settings

All graphs you create in Penetrace is set as a trend graph by default, if you want to change the graph type to bars or columns you simply choose one of these options under "Content" and "Chart Type".

When you choose any other chart type than trend you will see that the graph changes from showing data in a trend perspective to just showing data from the latest data point.

You can still navigate to the data point you want to view by hover your mouse over the blue line until you find the data point you are looking for and click on it.

This blue line is also a trend line for the data series with the blue graph symbol. You can easily change this blue trend line to a different data series simply by clicking on another data series label in the graph.

 

One of the features in graph settings you probably going to use the most is "Compare with Previous", this feature let you compare the results with a previous period. You find this feature under "Legend" and "Legend Type". Choose legend type "With Compare" and then choose "Compare with Previous:". If you want to compare with previous month, quarter or year you simply click on one of them.

 

The legend will automatically be updated with the specification you chosen. The previous period you selected to compare with is the value on the left side. On the right side in the legend you can see the percentage point change on the top and the percentage change in the bottom.

Save the New Graph

When you have set all the specification you want in the graph you simply click "Save Changes".(Note: You will not be able to save if you don't give the graph a title.)

The new graph will appear in the topic you selected.
